Northern Ireland’s Future Hydrogen Capability and Demand

“Northern Ireland’s Future Hydrogen Demand and Capability envisions a future economy powered by green hydrogen.

The report, produced by Frontier Economics and led by Matrix Chair Dr Robert Grundy articulates:

  • A vision for the green hydrogen economy in Northern Ireland, considering supply, demand and export potentials and an assessment of barriers and enablers that may need to be overcome or enhanced to ensure the sectors development.
  • An action plan to overcome these barriers and foster enablers.
  • An assessment of potential wider impacts on growth, employment and skills in the green economy.

The report was created with the engagement of stakeholders from over 50 organisations across the public and private sectors, taking on board the views of policy makers, industry experts and academics from throughout Northern Ireland, the wider UK and Ireland.

Matrix recognises the potential of Hydrogen as supportive of Green Economy initiatives across several policy and strategy areas hoped to show the economic opportunities in promoting the growth of the Hydrogen sector in Northern Ireland.

The report outlines the capabilities Northern Ireland has to meet this demand commercially and sets forth recommendations for policy development and practical interventions into the future demand for hydrogen in Northern Ireland.
