Exploring tech jobs and transformation in the UK

Job and Skills Report 2021

A new report from TechNation has revealed that tech companies are hiring at higher than pre-pandemic levels and Northern Ireland is the region with the third highest growth in the number of advertised tech vacancies across the 12 UK regions.

A £13.5bn investment across the tech sector in the first half of 2021 has resulted in a surge in hiring across the UK with tech related vacancies accounting for 13% of all UK vacancies, an increase from 12.3% in the previous year with almost a tenth of the UK workforce now employed in the tech sector.

Whereas in other industries the number of opportunities declines the further up the career ladder you go, the opposite is true of the tech sector with more than two-thirds of vacancies across the sector being advertised for senior roles and even higher for data scientist and front-end developer roles (85%) and IT system architects (89%).

Dr George Windsor, head of insights at Tech Nation, said: “[The findings] demonstrate how confidence in UK tech has grown over the past few months.

“From software developers to business analysts, people can have long and rewarding careers in the sector. With nearly 3 million people working in the industry already, this is set to increase steadily over the next year.”
