MATRIX has teamed up with the John Hewitt Society to bring you a night of talks and science themed poetry, culminating in a world record attempt for the most haiku tweeted at a single event!

The event is part of the NI Science Festival and will be held Tuesday 21st February in the Green Room at the Black Box on Hill Street in Belfast. Starting at 6.30,  a selection of the Haikus submitted to competition will be read out by our guest poets Jean Bleakney, Iggy McGovern and Matt Kirkham.

There will also be a panel discussion on the Haiku tradition, the interconnection of arts & science and how to take creative inspiration from science, nature and mathematics as well as the reading of a John Hewitt poem on a 9th century Irish haiku! We will also announce the winner and runners up of the main competition which closed last Friday.

Throughout the event (6.30 – 8.30) we will be inviting you to tweet a 5-7-5 Haiku on a scientific subject to @MATRIX_NI with the hashtag #MatrixHaiku. All eligible entries will be in with a chance to win a further £250 prize which will be announced on Friday 24th February.

Come along to the event to tweet your haiku live on the night and you help us in our attempt to set a record for the most haikus tweeted at a single event. There are still a few tickets available.
