Matrix Launches its latest report at the 2023 UK Space Conference

Matrix opened proceedings at the 2023 UK Space Conference on 21st November by launching its latest foresight report, Advanced Wireless Networks (AWN).

Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Jayne Brady spoke to attendees and officially welcomed the Advanced Wireless Networks (AWN) report with a few key messages on evidence and the collaborative action that is now required to ensure NI can reap the benefits of next generation connectivity.

 

Matrix Chair Robert Grundy FRSB  went on to lead a discussion panel with AWN study Chair, Patricia O’Hagan MBE, Deputy Chair William Revels, and key study contributors and guests Martin Gillespie Department for the Economy NI, Paul Murnaghan,  BT and Jim McLaughlin , NIBEC.

The panel discussed Northern Ireland’s need to enhance and improve existing telecommunication infrastructure to allow the region to adopt innovative technologies that can only thrive with strong networks as well as the range of specific barriers which need to be overcome to create truly transformative change.

 

They went on to suggest that with its existing skills base, and with willingness on the part of national, devolved, and local government and industry to invest in the required infrastructure, Northern Ireland is well positioned to take advantage of the economic and societal benefits of improved telecommunications beyond 5G.
