A new guide has been launched by the Department for the Economy’s Careers Service looking at the Cyber Security sector. Cyber Security Careers: A Young Person’s Guide provides an insight into what the cyber security industry has to offer, highlighting career options and entry routes and including video clips featuring individuals working locally in cyber security.

The Department for the Economy’s 10X Economic Vision identified five key strategic clusters and core areas of strength. This includes the Digital, ICT and Creative Industries cluster, which incorporates cyber security.

Northern Ireland is recognised as a global cyber security hub; with this in mind the Careers Service has produced a guide on this important and growing industry, aimed specifically at young people, including secondary school pupils and FE college students.

According to a recent report published by Queen’s University’s Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT), the average advertised salary for a cyber security employee working in Northern Ireland is estimated (2020) at £48,400 per annum with around 2,300 employees with an ambitious jobs target of 5,000 FTEs by 2030. The expansion of available roles, alongside ensuring a sustainable talent pipeline, will help to substantially boost the lifetime earnings of thousands of individuals brought into the sector.
