Report
Matrix, the Northern Ireland Science Industry Panel, commissioned a report to determine how Northern Ireland can be a pioneer for the next generation of communication channels and what opportunities the advanced wireless networks required for 6G and beyond.
The final report shows that Northern Ireland is well-positioned to reap the rewards of Advanced Wireless Networks, if they are effectively deployed.
The Report, produced in conjunction with Firetail, reveals that Northern Ireland needs to enhance and improve existing telecommunication infrastructure to allow the region to adopt innovative technologies that can only thrive with strong networks.
Working with stakeholders from across industry, academia and government, the report identifies a range of specific barriers which need to be overcome to create truly transformative change but with its existing skills base, and willingness on the part of national, devolved, and local government and industry to invest in the required infrastructure, Northern Ireland is well positioned to take advantage of the economic and societal benefits of improved telecommunications beyond 5G.
The report also finds that, with buy-in from government and industry, Northern Ireland can position itself as a leader in mobile technology.
