The Department of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is responsible for food, farming, environmental, fisheries, forestry and sustainability policy in Northern Ireland.
Agriculture is a key industry and employer in Northern Ireland, and the Department is seeking practical ways to address nutrient separation/processing of the resultant livestock slurry – particularly from cows and pigs – to generate energy. This is key to addressing concerns relating to ammonia, green house gas emissions and biosecurity.
A successful solution will enable slurry to be separated with minimal nitrogen and methane loss, to produce feedstock for energy production, with remaining nutrients providing artificial fertilizer for NI or export.
DAERA has been awarded £500,000 ex VAT of SBRI funding to support up to 5 suppliers to develop a solution.
This free to attend, online event will provide an overview of the SBRI programme in Northern Ireland, information about the project, and details of the application process.
