At MATRIX we recognise the strong relationship between science and the arts – indeed, we hold an annual poetry competition on a scientific theme.

So we were delighted when Yahoo’s technology editor Jason O. Gilbert published a witty poem made up entirely by the titles of various panels from this year’s SXSW Interactive Festival.

As our Chairman Bryan Keating says, “There is a symbiotic relationship between the arts and science.  While the two may appear to be at polar ends of the spectrum they are inextricably linked, with many of the world’s most esteemed scientists excelling in the arts too.”

Unfortunately for Jason, the MATRIX poetry prize is currently only open to those who live or work in Northern Ireland, though this year we may open it up to applicants across the island of Ireland. The award will open this September.
