- The establishment and supply of a green hydrogen transport network will engage skills in Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering. 48,000 people in 1,600 companies work in this sector in Northern Ireland. It also offers highly skilled jobs, which pay above the NI Private Sector Median.
- The Department for the Economy’s Economic Recovery Action Plan ‘Rebuilding a Stronger Economy’, sets priorities for a more competitive, inclusive and greener economy, and allocates £20m to the Greener Economy.
- The Department for Infrastructure is already working to support hydrogen technology in the transport sector, purchasing hydrogen buses and supporting associated infrastructure.
- Northern Ireland’s Hydrogen capabilities and associated opportunities, could play a key contributory role in meeting the priorities identified in the Programme for Government and Industrial Strategy.
