This innovative approach enhances empathy and awareness, making it a game-changer in the realm of support for visually impaired individuals.

Understanding Visual Impairment
Visual impairment is a significant concern, with 75% of people fearing the loss of sight more than any other sense. Empatheyes’ VR training is designed to address this fear, offering simulations that enhance empathy and improve support for individuals with a visual impairment. Their training programmes cover over 30 different visual conditions, facilitating better memory retention and understanding among professionals and caregivers.
In a world with an ageing population and a rise in preventable conditions like diabetic retinopathy, which affects people diagnosed with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, the importance of such technology cannot be overstated. These simulations not only aid in developing effective policies and solutions but also help in simplifying complex medical terminology, empowering individuals and caregivers in advocacy.

Sara McCracken’s journey with Empatheyes began with a simple, yet profound idea: using existing technology in novel ways to address significant problems. Initially developed in collaboration with Angel Eyes NI, a charity supporting around 700 children with vision impairments in Northern Ireland, Empatheyes now works with leading technologists and clinicians to ensure their simulations are both realistic and educational.
