SUMMARY:NI KTP Innovation Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Join us in-person to discover how the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Programme can help grow and scale your business.\n\n\nThe Northern Ireland KTP knowledge providers (Queen’s University Belfast\, Ulster University\, SERC\, SWC\, NWRC\, NRC\, Belfast Met\, CAFRE\, and Open University) are delighted to invite the business community to this insightful event. \nThe event will highlight the many benefits that an organisation can gain by partnering with a University or Further Education College through KTP. \nKTPs are a three-way partnership between an innovative business\, an academic knowledge provider\, and a highly skilled graduate to deliver the business’ strategic growth plans. Projects are part-funded by Innovate UK\, Invest NI and the company partner. \nThe KTP Programme can be applied to any business function (including management\, engineering\, R&D\, finance\, data\, production etc.) across all industry sectors. This event will focus on three current themes: \n\nDigital and Business Innovation\nNet-zero and Sustainability\nAdvanced Manufacturing \n\nYou will hear from a variety of academic and business partners on how to accelerate business growth through KTP\, and gain useful insights on how the programme could be used in your organisation. \nYou will have the opportunity to talk with KTP funders and Northern Ireland knowledge providers to get advice on business support mechanisms currently available from our local Universities and Colleges. \n  \nRegister below to secure your place or contact Aoife Lynch for more information. \nThis free event is aimed at SMEs and Large companies across Northern Ireland. Early registration is encouraged. \nWe look forward to meeting you.

SUMMARY:Briefing - Delivering a Sustainable Utilisation of Livestock Slurry (SULS) solution for Northern Ireland
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Agriculture\, Environment\, and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is responsible for food\, farming\, environmental\, fisheries\, forestry and sustainability policy in Northern Ireland. \nAgriculture is a key industry and employer in Northern Ireland\, and the Department is seeking practical ways to address nutrient separation/processing of the resultant livestock slurry – particularly from cows and pigs – to generate energy. This is key to addressing concerns relating to ammonia\, green house gas emissions and biosecurity. \nA successful solution will enable slurry to be separated with minimal nitrogen and methane loss\, to produce feedstock for energy production\, with remaining nutrients providing artificial fertilizer for NI or export. \nDAERA has been awarded £500\,000 ex VAT of SBRI funding to support up to 5 suppliers to develop a solution. \nThis free to attend\, online event will provide an overview of the SBRI programme in Northern Ireland\, information about the project\, and details of the application process.

SUMMARY:Energy Efficient Networks: New Architectures
DESCRIPTION:Following the initial kick-off meeting\, techUK and the CSA Catapult will host a series of ‘deep dive’ roundtables to explore in more detail key topics related to network energy efficiency. \nRoundtable 2 will examine ‘New Architectures’ and will be co-chaired by Satellite Applications Catapult. Final agenda and speakers TBC. \nWe anticipate the following topics will be discussed\, along with others identified at the kick-off meeting: \n\nSelf-powering infrastructure: focus on the use of renewable-energy generation at masts and other sites\nArtificial Intelligence (AI)\, Machine Learning (ML) and energy reduction: the use of software in order to manage network energy needs.\nPhotonics and optical communications: More energy efficient photonics are cited as important in previous discussions\nSemiconductors\, materials\, and manufacture: This would focus on how compound semiconductors and efficiencies in the manufacture of physical infrastructure can increase energy efficiency.\nRAN\, RF and microwave communications: How the RAN itself\, not just its components\, power source or network management\, can become more efficient – we will also explore the potential of open and disaggregated networks in reducing energy consumption.\nEnergy efficient cooling: Exploring new and innovative cooling methods that aid a reduction in energy use in high-demand/high-resilience environments\, such as data centres.\nMetamaterials and intelligent reflected surfaces: the role of passive and active surfaces for beam forming and directional tracking to improve network efficiency.\n\nDuring the deep dive roundtables\, we will invite attendees to discuss UK capabilities\, market potential and priorities for future investment. The roundtables will be held under Chatham House Rule. \nSession chairs: \n\n\n\n\nSophie James\n\nProgramme Manager\, Communications Infrastructure and Services\, techUK \nFind out more \n\n\n\n\n\nDr Andy Sellars FIET\n\nStrategic Development Director\, CSA Catapult
