SUMMARY:The Net Zero series - Sustainable Supply Chains
DESCRIPTION:The net zero series sheds light on the work already undertaken by UKRI’s flagship programme -the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.\n\n\nWe live in a time of unprecedented change. The way we live our lives and do business is impacting the planet and driving environmental change on a scale unique in the Earth’s history. We are consuming our natural resources at unprecedented levels whilst polluting our environment\, affecting our air\, soils\, water and biodiversity. This is increasing the challenges linked to extreme weather and a changing climate which can have devastating impacts on the environment and human life and hinder economic growth. To meet these challenges\, and recognising our leadership potential\, in 2019 the UK became the first major economy to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. \nThe net zero series sheds light on the work already undertaken by UKRI’s flagship programme -the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to address the key challenges that will help the UK build back greener. It will bring together world-renowned researchers and innovators across the breadth of our funding disciplines to discuss the need for innovative solutions to heat our homes\, travel to work\, develop and transform our industries\, cater to our diet\, enjoy our leisure time\, and prosper from a cleaner\, healthier environment in parallel with growing our economy. \nWe will run a monthly webinar from April to November featuring ISCF challenges\, UKRI councils and project leads\, as well as renowned external experts from academia\, industry and technology fields. \nIn September we will be discussing Sustainable Supply Chains : To help reach net zero we need to look at our supply chains and explore ways to make them more efficient. By adopting digital technologies for faster and improved efficiency\, the increased sustainability of UK manufacturing will result in reduced waste\, reuse of resources and reduction of carbon emissions. \nChair: Amy Peace – Innovation Lead for Circular Economy -Manufacturing and Materials \nSpeakers: \n\nJudith Batchelor – Director at Sainsbury’s \nKim Lloyd – Director at SupplyVue \nProfessor Neil Burgess – Trade Hub Project Lead \nMark Urbanowski – Innovation Lead for Driving the Electric Revolution \nGeoff Brighty – ReNew ELP (TBC – but ReNew has agreed to take part)\n\n\n\nAll topic and dates: \n\n\n21 September – Sustainable Supply Chains\n19 October – Sustainable Materials\n16 November – Sustainable Energy\n\n\n\nView recordings of previous topics on YouTube: \n\nSustainable Food \nSustainable Transport\nSustainable Buildings\nSustainable Industry\n\n\n\n\nAmy Peace – Innovation Lead for Circular Economy -Manufacturing and Materials \nAmy Peace is the Innovation Lead for Circular Economy at Innovate UK. SUMMARY:Hitting net zero: how the government can decarbonise homes
DESCRIPTION:Decarbonising homes will be among the most difficult elements of reaching net zero. Homes account for 15% of the UK’s total emissions\, yet there has been little progress towards reducing these over the past decade. Confidence has been damaged by repeated U-turns and policy failures\, including the Green Deal and the Green Homes Grant. \nAchieving net zero by 2050 will require a huge national programme to deliver the infrastructure needed to reduce residential emissions – retrofitting homes\, installing heat pumps and developing local heat networks. The government\, businesses and consumers all have key roles to play. But how should the government approach policy making in this area? Will the long overdue Heat and Buildings Strategy be worth the wait and offer a clear plan? How can previous policy failures be learnt from? And how can we ensure the UK’s infrastructure is ready to support zero-emission homes? \nOn our panel to discuss these issues will be: \n\nLord Callanan\, Minister for Business\, Energy & Corporate Responsibility at BEIS\nChris Burchell\, Managing Director\, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution\nGillian Cooper\, Head of Energy Policy at Citizens Advice\nGuy Newey\, Director of Strategy and Performance at the Energy Systems Catapult\n\nThis event will be chaired by Marcus Shepheard\, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Government

SUMMARY:AI Skunkworks Webinar - Building Proofs of Concepts.
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn how we have been using AI to identify patients at risk of long term hospital stays and how you can apply to work with us.\n\n\nOver the last 12 weeks The NHSx Skunkworks partnered with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE) partners\, Polygeist to explore the question can machine learning help us to identify patients who are at risk of long term stay? Long term stay is when a patient stays in hospital for more than 21 days. \nThe AI Lab Skunkworks works on Demonstrating the potential of AI through proofs-of-concepts and upskilling the workforce through a knowledge-sharing model. We help healthcare organisations apply AI to their problems through rapid\, agile\, iterative projects. By running an open call\, we help develop proofs of concepts through a 12 week process usually helped by a supplier. We’re excited to present the results of our last project. \nIn this show and tell you will learn all about: \n\nHow we investigated the benefits of AI applied to hospital admissions data\nWhat we did and how we collaborated on this project\nWhat AI approach we took and why\nWhat we created and the benefits of creating a proof of concept\nWhat the benefits are in the short\, medium and long term\nThe impact of creating this proof of concept\nHow you can solve a similar problem using our open approach\nHow you can apply to work with us on a problem you’ve seen.

SUMMARY:Future of Air Mobility accelerator webinar
DESCRIPTION:On the 9th September\, Connected Places Catapult will be hosting a webinar\, showcasing our upcoming Future of Air Mobility accelerator.\n\n\nExtensive conversations with industry and internal market research have led us to the conclusion that through the collaboration of industry\, academic\, government and regulatory partners\, our programme can convene innovation across a variety of key and immediate industry challenges. \nThe vision for the programme is a consortium approach whereby partners of the programme can innovate and trial new technologies collaboratively with SMEs. Through the collected efforts of Connected Places Catapult and industry stakeholders\, we will provide the needed delivery support and access to governing and regulatory bodies within air mobility. \nSubsequently\, Connected Places Catapult are looking for a variety of partners who can provide access to testing facilities and data feeds to enable the SMEs to test and trial their technologies. Through access to government and regulatory bodies\, we will equally ensure the roadmap to securing lasting partnerships through aligning the accelerator with the long-term vision of government regulations and strategy. \nOur webinar will cover the analysis we have collated through internal market research\, our accelerator process\, talks from our current collaborators on the value derived through the accelerator and finally the consortium opportunities available to partners. \nAbout Future of Air Mobility (FOAM) \nFuture of Air Mobility (FOAM) is a new\, challenge-led 6 month accelerator programme powered by Connected Places Catapult. Working with industry partners to identify pain points and key strategic objectives\, CPC will source and select 12 SMEs with highly innovative solutions at TRL 6+ operating across a number of sectors. Each SME will receive a bespoke programme roadmap tailored to their requirements\, including investment readiness\, technology and product development support\, along with introductions to aviation stakeholders and potential customers. These activities will be co-designed with SMEs in order to grow their businesses and adapt propositions to programme partner requirements\, with the aim of reducing time to market for disruptive technologies by facilitating trials and commercial opportunities. \nThrough a focus on new and emerging challenges within the aviation ecosystem\, FOAM will work alongside a consortium of partners across industry\, government\, academia and regulation\, to ensure that the programme tackles significant sector challenges and de-risks innovation in the marketplace.

SUMMARY:Innovation diffusion: How can regions benefit?
DESCRIPTION:The webinar represents the 14th meeting of the Spatial Productivity Lab at the OECD Trento Centre and is organised in collaboration with Swedish Entrepreneurship Forum \nInnovation is the most important contributor to long-term economic growth. It is not just about “pushing the frontier”\, but also about the spread of ideas and technologies throughout the economy. Innovation diffusion can help regions to catch up by integrating and building on existing ideas and technologies. Yet\, the spread of innovation seems to be slow. What are the mechanisms of innovation diffusion\, what are the barriers and how can regions more actively and successfully learn in order to increase their productivity\, competitiveness and wellbeing? \nSwedish Entrepreneurship Forum is the leading network organization for initiating\, conducting and communicating policy relevant research in the field of entrepreneurship\, innovation\, business dynamics and growth. Swedish Entrepreneurship Forum is the founder of the most prestigious international research prize in the field: Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research. \nThe Spatial Productivity Lab (SPL) at the OECD Trento Centre for Local Development is a dedicated research laboratory that works with local and global partners to advance knowledge about the ways regional policy and a better understanding of spatial links can improve productivity growth and thereby the creation of better jobs and well-being.

SUMMARY:City Leaders Dialogues: The net zero road to COP26 and beyond
DESCRIPTION:Spotlight on the City of Bristol\n\n\nOverview of series\n \n \nCities are vital to ensure the world builds back better after the Covid 19 pandemic and they’re just as important when it comes to creating a sustainable urban future. It’s often said that nations pledge but cities deliver. So as world leaders prepare for the COP26 Climate Change Summit in Glasgow this November\, the role of cities will be crucial in delivering on their pledges.\n \n \nAs part of this global conversation\, the UK’s Connected Places Catapult has partnered with Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities on a series of Mayoral Dialogues\, led by Prof. Greg Clark CBE\, Chairman of Connected Places Catapult. On The Net Zero Road to COP26 and Beyond\, we ask how global city leaders and stepping up to one of the biggest challenges humanity faces: a changing climate and the need to reduce global carbon emissions.\n \n \nWe explore city carbon neutrality plans ranging from net zero neighbourhoods\, active travel\, sustainable homes\, and the decarbonisation of transport. We’ll be asking how city leaders are financing net zero programmes\, how they’re fostering the innovation economy\, and how global collaboration between cities can spark new ideas and unlock opportunity.\n \n \nSpotlight on Bristol\n \n \nProfessor Greg Clark CBE\, Chairman of Connected Places Catapult has a fireside chat with Mayor Rees\, Bristol City Council\, who will be showcasing best practices from Bristol that are leading the way on the net zero road to COP26 and beyond following the city’s pledge to be a carbon neutral and climate resilient city by 2030.\n \n \nWho Should Attend and Why?\n \n \nIf you’re a place leader\, we want you to gain inspiration from others and identify new opportunities for collaboration on net zero projects. We’ll be looking at some of the challenges that place leaders tackle daily in cities\, such as 1) thinking creatively about the totality of a place when setting visions and plans\, 2) making the business case for local investment in a sustainable future\, and 3) the power of city-to-city collaboration\, both local and global.\n \nIf you are an innovator\, a start-up or an SME we want you to get a better understanding of what place leaders are thinking when it comes to procuring and enabling innovation when budgets are tight and capacity is often stretched.\n \nIf you are a researcher we want you to get a better understanding of the role that R&D plays in a city’s innovation economy\, and how city leaders are thinking about the role of skills and talent in harnessing new opportunities for collaboration and growth.\n \nNo matter who you are\, we want you to leave inspired by how global city leaders around the world are marshalling the skills\, talent\, creativity and assets of their places for the transition to a net zero city. \nSpeakers \n\nMayor Marvin Rees\, City of Bristol \nProf Greg Clark OBE\, Chairman\, Connected Places Catapult \n\nAgenda \n09.00 – welcome and introduction \n09.05 – Interview with Mayor Marvin Rees \n09.40 – Questions from the Audience \n09.55 – Wrap up and close \n10.00 event close

SUMMARY:SBRI Briefing Event - Emotional Health\, Wellbeing and Resilience Challenge
DESCRIPTION:SBRI Briefing Event – Children and Young People’s Emotional Health\, Wellbeing and Resilience Challenge\n\n\nHow might we provide digital support around early intervention and prevention for children and young people aged 8-11 to build resilience in their emotional health and well-being? \nMore children and young people are experiencing poor mental health and emotional wellbeing including rising levels of anxiety\, depression and self-harm. The demand for support is increasing across all service sectors and despite everyone’s best efforts\, services for children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing currently vary considerably across North Wales. The Emotional Health Wellbeing and Resilience work stream (part of the Children and Young People’s Transformation Programme in North Wales) will develop a framework. \nThe SBRI challenge is to determine the most effective digital mechanism for the content of the framework to be accessed by the end users which include the child/young person\, parent/carer as well as professionals\, and maintained on an on-going basis. The framework content will be evidence and practice-based\, and be led by those working in the fields of mental health\, education and social care \nA solution would need to consider the following: \n\nGuided self-help for children and their families\n\n\nDiffering end user experiences that are exciting and engaging depending on who that may be e.g. children\, parents\, professionals\n\n\nEasy to navigate\n\n\nThe need to demonstrate bilingual capability for Phase\n\n\nCustomisable (e.g. branding for and by 8-11 year olds)\n\n\nCan be maintained by relevant users (e.g. updating content)\n\n\nHas the ability to adapt and scale\n\n\nBe affordable\, demonstrate value for money\n\n\nBeing able to analyse usage\n\nThe SBRI challenge will be a 2 Phase ‘rapid’ approach detailed below\, due for completion by the end of January 2022. \n \nChallenge Structure: \nPhase 1 \nFeasibility & Demonstrator – We are looking to fund up to four projects to the value of £10\,000.00 each\, inclusive of VAT\, to be delivered over a 2 month period. Due to the rapid nature of the project solutions at the end of this stage would be in prototype format ready to be demonstrated in the next phase. \n \nPhase 2 \nDevelopment & Testing- The most promising Phase 1 projects may have the opportunity to access additional funding to undertake further development and robust testing. Successful applicants can apply for a share of £40\,000.00 inclusive of VAT\, with the intention to take forward up to two Phase 1 projects (£20\,000 each) to provide assurance\, validation and a small live proof of concept. The solution at the end of this phase should be commercially viable and ready for purchase. \n \nFor the full Challenge Brief: https://sdi.click/ehwr
