SUMMARY:Airspace of the Future Showcase
DESCRIPTION:During the hybrid event you will hear from the project partners who will be discussing what the airspace may look like in the future with regards to creating a safe\, sustainable and accessible airspace. \nThe Airspace of the Future consortium led by Thales are hosting their final showcase event at the DARTeC facility at Cranfield University. \nThe project partners are: Thales\, Cranfield University\, Cranfield Airport Operations\, Inmarsat\, Altitude Angel\, Ocado Group\, Blue Bear\, Satellite Applications Catapult\, and Connected Places Catapult. \nOver the past 21 months this multi-skilled\, cross-sector consortium has been focussing on exploring the challenges that the future use of drones at scale will face and how we solve them. The project has been developing a coherent\, UK-wide solution that will meet regulatory and safety requirements which will enable equitable access to the airspace to all drone operators against a managed and controlled framework. \nDuring the hybrid event you will hear from the project partners who will be discussing what the airspace may look like in the future with regards to creating a safe\, sustainable and accessible airspace.

SUMMARY:New Nuclear and the UK Energy Strategy
DESCRIPTION:An evening discussion event to explore the role of new nuclear power in the UK energy strategy\n\n\n\n\n\nIn April 2022\, the UK Government published an Energy Security Strategy\, mapping out a transition to low carbon energy sources. A key element of that is a commitment to a major expansion in civil nuclear power – to 24GW by 2050\, representing 25% of projected electricity demand.\n\n\nIn this event\, FST will explore the challenges to achieve this target\, the opportunities from both small and large nuclear reactors\, and the issue of treatment and storage of radioactive waste. \nSpeakers: \n\nJulia Pyke\, Sizewell C Director of Financing and Economic Regulation\, EDF\nSophie Macfarlane-Smith\, Head of Customer Engagement\, Rolls Royce SMR Ltd\nKaren Wheeler CBE\, Deputy CEO and Major Capital Programmes Director\, Nuclear Waste Services\n\nChaired by the Rt Hon the Lord Willetts FRS\, Chair of the Foundation for Science and Technology
