She was awarded her PhD in April 2018. Samantha works in the interdisciplinary research area of applying computer science techniques to the scientific domain\, specifically through the use of semantic web technologies and artificial intelligence. Her research includes looking at electronic lab notebooks and smart laboratories\, to improve the digitization and knowledge management of the scientific record using semantic web technologies; and using IoT devices in the laboratory. She has also worked on a number of interdisciplinary Semantic Web projects in different domains\, including agriculture\, chemistry and the social sciences. \n The Skills 4 Scientists series\nThis series is a joint venture organised between the Artificial Intelligence for Scientific Discovery Network+ (AI3SD) and the Physical Sciences Data-Science Service (PSDS)\, running alongside the AI3SD summer internship program. This series of events will run over the summer and aims to educate and improve scientists’ skills in a range of areas including research data management\, python\, version control\, ethics\, and career development. \nThis series is primarily aimed at final year undergraduates / early stage PhD students. Although of course anyone interested in any of the topics is welcome to join! \nThis series starts on the 7th July 2021\, and runs every other Wednesday and Thursday afternoon until the end of August. Each seminar session will commence at 14:00 and typically finish around 17:00. The final event of the series will be a 2 day poster symposia where attendees will be invited to present their research to a range of experts from industry and academia. \nTo find out about the other events in the series visit https://www.ai3sd.org/skills-4-scientists/ \nEvent Access Details\nThis event will be run virtually via the Zoom video conferencing platform. This can be accessed via either a computer or mobile device. \nIn most of the session we will ask that attendees keep their camera off and microphones muted to reduce bandwidth and background noise. If we invite attendees to join us on camera there is no obligation to switch on your camera. \nYou will be able to ask questions via the chat box in Zoom\, or in dedicated question sessions we will also invite people to ask questions using their microphone. \nThis event will utilise the automated captioning provided by Zoom\, and where permission is given we will post recordings of the event on our YouTube channels to allow you to watch them again later. \nAbout AI3SD\nWe are the AI3SD Network+ (Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Intelligence for Automated Investigations for Scientific Discovery). The Network+ is funded by EPSRC and hosted by the University of Southampton and aims to bring together researchers looking to show how cutting edge artificial and augmented intelligence technologies can be used to push the boundaries of scientific discovery. \nAbout PSDS\nThe Physical Sciences Data-science Service (PSDS) is a National Research Facility funded by EPSRC and run by the University of Southampton and STFC. SUMMARY:SBRI Briefing Event - Emotional Health\, Wellbeing and Resilience Challenge
DESCRIPTION:SBRI Briefing Event – Children and Young People’s Emotional Health\, Wellbeing and Resilience Challenge\n\n\nHow might we provide digital support around early intervention and prevention for children and young people aged 8-11 to build resilience in their emotional health and well-being? \nMore children and young people are experiencing poor mental health and emotional wellbeing including rising levels of anxiety\, depression and self-harm. The demand for support is increasing across all service sectors and despite everyone’s best efforts\, services for children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing currently vary considerably across North Wales. The Emotional Health Wellbeing and Resilience work stream (part of the Children and Young People’s Transformation Programme in North Wales) will develop a framework. \nThe SBRI challenge is to determine the most effective digital mechanism for the content of the framework to be accessed by the end users which include the child/young person\, parent/carer as well as professionals\, and maintained on an on-going basis. The framework content will be evidence and practice-based\, and be led by those working in the fields of mental health\, education and social care \nA solution would need to consider the following: \n\nGuided self-help for children and their families\n\n\nDiffering end user experiences that are exciting and engaging depending on who that may be e.g. children\, parents\, professionals\n\n\nEasy to navigate\n\n\nThe need to demonstrate bilingual capability for Phase\n\n\nCustomisable (e.g. branding for and by 8-11 year olds)\n\n\nCan be maintained by relevant users (e.g. updating content)\n\n\nHas the ability to adapt and scale\n\n\nBe affordable\, demonstrate value for money\n\n\nBeing able to analyse usage\n\nThe SBRI challenge will be a 2 Phase ‘rapid’ approach detailed below\, due for completion by the end of January 2022. \n \nChallenge Structure: \nPhase 1 \nFeasibility & Demonstrator – We are looking to fund up to four projects to the value of £10\,000.00 each\, inclusive of VAT\, to be delivered over a 2 month period. Due to the rapid nature of the project solutions at the end of this stage would be in prototype format ready to be demonstrated in the next phase. \n \nPhase 2 \nDevelopment & Testing- The most promising Phase 1 projects may have the opportunity to access additional funding to undertake further development and robust testing. Successful applicants can apply for a share of £40\,000.00 inclusive of VAT\, with the intention to take forward up to two Phase 1 projects (£20\,000 each) to provide assurance\, validation and a small live proof of concept. The solution at the end of this phase should be commercially viable and ready for purchase. \n \nFor the full Challenge Brief: https://sdi.click/ehwr
