Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) is an Executive Agency within the Department of Justice (DOJ). providing scientific services and expertise to assist in the investigation of crime and the presentation of scientific evidence in court.  Operationally independent, its main customers include: the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI); the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland; the NI State Pathologist, as well as a number of other customers in NI and further afield.

Primary evidence recovery from an item such as body fluids, DNA, fingerprints, hairs, fibres, gunshot & explosive residue, paint and glass is one of the most important steps in the forensic process as the visualisation, identification and maximising evidence potential is critical at this early stage. However, this activity is labour intensive requiring highly trained and skilled members of staff to undertake several thousand examinations per year.

FSNI has been awarded £155,000 of SBRI funding and is wanting to work with up to four suppliers to develop innovative techniques /solutions to improve the rapid visualisation and identification of body fluids on a range of substrates within a forensic science environment.

This information event will provide an opportunity to hear from FSNI staff and learn more about the SBRI challenge and how to bid.
